Prinsendam

s.s. Prinsendam (1).

 

On 3 January 1936, the keel was laid at the N.V. Rotterdamsche Droogdok Maatschappij, Rotterdam for a 36.287 grt. ship to be named 'Prinsendam'. However, planning was changed and on 10 April 1937 she was launched as 'Nieuw Amsterdam' (1938 - 1974).

m.s. Prinsendam (1), 8.346 grt., 1973 - 1980 *

Built by B.V. Scheepswerf en Machinefabriek 'De Merwede', Hardinxveld-Giessendam. Catched fire on 4 October 1980, capsized and sunk on 11 October 1980.

Built by Wartsila, Turku. 1988: Royal Viking Sun (Royal Viking Line), 1994: Royal Viking Sun (Cunard Line), 1999: Seabourn Sun (Seabourn Cruise Line), 2002: transferred to Holland America Line as Prinsendam.
